PRESS TV - The Iranian Football Federation has chosen Portuguese Artur Jorge Braga Melo Teixeira to coach the country's national soccer team.
"Artur Jorge has been named as the new head coach of the Iranian national soccer team," an unnamed source told ISNA after the IFF's Transition Committee announced the name of the foreign coach will be disclosed by Friday.
Jorge will soon come to Tehran to sign his contract, it said, adding, "Mansour Ebrahimzadeh will be Jorge's assistant and co-coach."
Ebrahimzadeh is to announce 50 playmakers to be member of the national squad within few days.
If the news is confirmed, the 61-year-old Portuguese will face a tough challenge to revive the Asian heavyweight without a coach for months.
Chosen by Portuguese sports newspaper Record as one of the best 100 Portuguese football players ever, Jorge has so far coached the Portuguese, Cameroon and Swiss national sides.
Jorge, known also as 'King Artur', has been coach of several clubs such as FC Porto (Portugal), Paris Saint-Germain (France) as well as Saudi Arabia's Al Nasr club.
